I came to see you today after a long and stressful day
As I've done for 10 years, to you I was endeared
My heart sank when I saw your cage gone
For I was but one of many who came for her fix
A few moments distraction and feathery kicks
From my feathered friend, you seemed to know me
I do believe that you were happy to see me
I so looked forward to carrying you about
Your wings were my shoulders, You'd stretch, look about
We would stand in the sun at the front of the store
So you'd feel it on your face once more
You nibbled on my earring, making me giggle
You stood tall, crested and whistled
If you pooped on me, I forgot
missed you as left with what I'd bought
Bird affection is different from dogs and cats
It's subtle, more connected; not like rubs and pats
I'd taught you a song which You whistled while we strode along
So of all the great moments you gave me these long years
One stands out in my thoughts, through my tears
I'd come to see you, ostensibly for food
I crept up on you in your cage to see what you'd do
You must have recognized me for you started to sing
The tune I'd taught you, without my saying a thing
Your loss was an accident, we forgive everyone
To mingle on the floor were you bent, T'was no one's intent
I will miss my little Ginger more that I can say
And believe I will see you again, one day
For a tiny feathered creature who touched us so much
Only this, could be such
