Background Information

The German Shepherd Rescue is dedicated to saving as many dogs as it can effectively care for. The Rescue primarily concentrates on rescuing German Shepherds although it does occasionally take other breeds and mixed breeds. The Rescue carefully screens adopters so that the available dogs can be matched up with the most suitable homes. The Rescue has successfully helped hundreds of dogs since it was founded in October of 1992. The Rescue has also helped hundreds of additional dogs be placed with other rescue groups. As the Rescue continues to grow, so will the number of dogs and puppies that can be saved.

Funding

The Rescue is funded by donations and in part from the adoption fees charged for the dogs. These donations and adoption fees help to cover some of the costs associated with caring for the dogs. The Rescue must also pay pound fees which range from $25.00 to $65.00. Every dog coming through the Rescue is checked over by a veterinarian. This includes a vet visit, rabies shot, heartworm test, and any tests or treatments the veterinarian deems necessary. All dogs are also spayed or neutered before adoption. In many instances, the dogs have been so neglected or mistreated that they require additional veterinary care, as in the case of dogs with heartworms.

About The Dogs

The dogs that are helped through the Rescue come from a variety of places. Most of the dogs are strays or unwanted pets that are turned in at the dog pound. The Rescue works with shelters all over North Carolina. All of the dogs are wonderful loving animals that desperately need help. Many of the dogs are scared and unsure when they are first taken-in by a foster family. However, with love and kindness the dogs learn to trust once again and soon become an active member of the foster home. The Rescue believes that animals should be respected, loved, well cared for and treated as part of the family. A dog is a friend and a companion. A dog is a smart, intelligent and loyal friend that deserves to have a healthy and happy life with its human family.
