What is Second
Chance Pets?
Second Chance Pets is a nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to
providing stray and unwanted pets a second chance through foster care and pet
adoption programs.
Where is SCP Located?
SCP operates in the Clear Lake area but does not have a shelter or an office
location. Animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent
home is found.
How Do I Adopt A Pet?
You will be asked to complete an application. An SCP volunteer will review the
application and discuss pet ownership possibilities with you. The adoption fee
is $75.00.
Are the Animals Healthy?
SCP emphasizes the health of each pet in the program. Unlike many other
adoption programs, each animal receives a health exam by a veterinarian, is
vaccinated when it first enters the program, and is kept in a foster home to
minimize exposure to disease. All animals are neutered or spayed,
checked/treated for parasites, and are vaccinated for rabies. Cats are tested
for feline leukemia and FIV, and vaccinated for FVRCP-C and FelV. Dogs are
tested for heartworms, placed on preventive, and vaccinated for DHLPP, Corona
virus, and bordatella.
How Do I Get an Animal into the SCP Program?
Animals are accepted into the program only if foster homes and funds for
veterinary care are available. A donation is requested to help offset the cost
of caring for the animals.
Does SCP Euthanize Animals?
SCP's goal is to medically treat and successfully rehabilitate each animal
accepted into the program. Sadly, however, euthanasia is sometimes the most
humane choice.
What Can I Do to Help Give a Pet a Second Chance at Life?
SCP always needs new volunteer foster homes since the number of animals that
can be helped at any given time depends on the availability of foster care. As
this program operates solely on donations and volunteer effort, we appreciate
any support you can offer. Volunteers are needed to work mobile adoptions and
coordinate fund raisers and publicity.
